All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Obituary for Joseph Marion McCluer Published in Commerce Weekly Farm Journal (Hunt Co., TX) on Thursday, July 5, 1956 on Page 1: "Saturday Service For Pioneer Farmer Funeral Services for Joseph Marion McCluer, pioneer farmer of the Scatterbranch community were held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Scatterbranch church with the Rev. C. H. Pittman and the Rev. E. G. Nelson officiating. Mr. McCluer, aged 2, died Friday morning at a local hospital. He had been in ill health for several months and had only recently returned to the hospital after having been dismissed for only a short period of time. Mr. McCluer was a native of Alabama and moved to the Scatterbranch community in 1923. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors included his widow, three daughters, Mrs. M. O. Weatherford, and Mrs. B. L. Dickerson, Marietta, Miss. and Mrs. John D. Mayfield, Wills Point (TX); a son, K. M. McCluer, Commerce; three step-daughters and 17 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial was in Rosemound cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of W. Y. Goff Funeral Home." In the Classified Section under Notices on Thursday, July 12, 1956: "Card of Thanks We wish to express our appreciation to our many friends and neighbors for the food and floral offerings, also the doctors, hospital staff, ministers, singers, pianist and everyone who were so thoughtful and kind during the illness and death of our loved one.
