Selma Payne Lanier
    Mrs. Selma Payne Lanier, 65, died on October 25, 1978, at her home in
Celeste.
    Graveside services were held October 26, 1978, at the Celeste Cemetery
with the Rev. Ken Cole, Baptist pastor, officiating.  Pallbearers were Hubert
Shields, Doug Armstrong, Earnest Berry, Johnnie Lyon, Lloyd Lanier, and Don
Armstrong.
    Mrs. Lanier was born on April 7, 1913, at Kingston the daughter of Grover
Cleveland Payne and Nancy Opal Gregory Payne.  She was a Baptist and retired
from the Celeste schools.  She was married to Roy Thomas Lanier on November
12, 1931, at Celeste.
    Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy JoAnn Prather and
Mrs. Shirley Payne Spoonemore, both of Celeste; a son, Cleveland Thomas Lanier
of Achilles, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. Veda Stokey of Dallas and Mrs. Edna
Keller of Greenville; a brother, Alvin Payne of Garland; seven grandchildren,
Michael Prather, Celeste Prather, Christy Prather, Donnie Spoonemore, Nanette
Lanier, Cynthia Bully, and Shannon Bully, all of Celeste.
    Taylor Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.  (November 3, 1978,
