Lyon announces his candidacy for Hunt County Commissioner, Precinct 1. Lyon is a Hunt County native and he was graduated from Leonard High School in 1946. He is the son of Mrs. J. B. Lyon of Leonard. A military veteran, Lyon served during the Korean Conflict with the United States Marines. He is currently a member of the American Legion Post 110, in Leonard. Lyon has owned Lyon's Garage in Celeste for seventeen years. At present, he is also performing the duties of water and sewer superintendent for the City of Celeste. As an informed citizen, Lyon is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Celeste Independent School District. He has also served on the Celeste City Council. Lyon has served on the Industrial Committee for the City of Celeste, and for the past fifteen years, he has served as a member of the Celeste Volunteer Fire Department. Lyon is sincerely interested in county government. He knows of the problems facing local governmental units. He sees the need for county government to become more progressive. "If I am elected, I will serve the Citizens of Hunt County to be best of my ability. I believe that I have the experience to serve as a progressive county commissioner. County government is somewhat like a business, and I would like for Hunt County to be operated in a business-like manner. I have always dealt fairly and honestly with everyone, and I will continue to do so. If elected, I will devote full time to the position of County Commissioner," says Lyon, "I have lived in the county and know the importance of keeping the roads and bridges in good condition." The candidate is married to the former Bethalyne Lyday. She currently serves as Assistant Cashier at the First National Bank of Celeste. They Lyons are the parents of two sons, Ronnie, 16, and Gary, 12. They Lyon family attends the First United Methodist Church of Celeste. Lyon is currently serving on the Administrative Board, and also serves as Trustee of the church. Lyon stated, "I will try to personally contact every voter in my precinct, and I will sincerely appreciate your vote and influence."
