All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ********************************************************** Mrs. Letha Ethel Gilchrest Manley Mrs. Letha Ethel Gilchrest Manley, a resident of Greenville since 1908, passed away Thursday, May 19, 1960, in a Greenville hospital following a two week's illness. Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM last Saturday in Lamar Baptist Church in Greenville. Rev. Fred Brewer and Rev. W. O. Majors officiated. Burial was made in Forest Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roy Jaco, Bill Parker, Bill Pugh, Ruel Head, all of Greenville; Troy Jaco of Sherman, and Jimmie Norris of Celeste. Mrs. Manley was a native of Gonzales County and was born on September 15, 1893. Her parents were A. B. Gilchrest and Buella Williams Gilchrest. She was reared near Oglesby, Texas and was a member of Lamar Baptist Church. On November 18, 1908, she was married to Bob Manley in Quanah and they moved to Hunt County and had lived here since that time. Surviving are her husband, Bob Manley; four sons, Polly T. Manley, Waco; Wayne Manley and Ralph Manley, Greenville; Rev. B. J. Manley, Center; three daughters, Mrs. A. E. Gauntt, Greenville; Mrs. G. I. Wilcox, Houston; Mrs. C. E. Black, Dallas; seventeen grandchildren, including Michael Manley, who was reared in the home as a son by Mr. and Mrs. Manley; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Allen Gilchrest, Dallas; Mac Gilchrest, Houston; Coleman Gilchrest, Monohans, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Howard, Dallas; Mrs. Beatrice Smith and Mrs. Hattie Bass, Comanche, Texas; and other relatives. (May 27, 1960, The Celeste Courier) (I believe Mr. and Mrs. Manley lived in Celeste for a few years during their time in Hunt County. I also believe that Mr. Manley was Celeste Mayor {or at least Celeste City Council Member} when Michael Manley was a Celeste student.)
