Born October 6, 1913, in Commrce, Texas, Mrs. Nanney had been a resident of Hitchcock since 1956, formerly of Commerce. She taught 6th and 8th grade at SFISD for several years, until becoming the librarian until her retirement in 1976. A member of the Santa Fe Chapter of TOPS, Mrs. Nanney loved gardening, talking walks and was especially fond of her pet bird. She was preceded in death by her husband, Meade M. Nanney; parents, Clark and Mattie George and sister, Edith Weddle. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Marti Nanney of Galveston; sisters, Marie Moore of Commerce, Billie F. Ross of Galveston; granchildren, Kenneth Aaron Nanney and Curtis E. Niederhaus; and great- grandchildren, Connor E. Niederhaus and Bailee R. Holley. Funeral sevices will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2004, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with the Rev. Noy Pruitt officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.
