All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Emmett Ray Owens Emmett Ray Owens, 84, of Leonard, died July 5, 1978, at the VA Hospital in Bonham. Funeral services were at 2:00 PM, Friday, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole officiating. Burial was in the Leonard Cemetery under direction of Taylor Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Paul Gaines, Forrest Gaines, D. C. Abernathy, Ken Goolsby, Johnny Massey, and Jim Alford. Mr. Owens was born on December 5, 1893, in Leonard to Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Owens. He was married to Inez Gaines on June 1, 1919, at Bailey. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Baptist Church, the Odd Fellows Lodge, and was a Mason. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife of Leonard; a daughter, Mrs. J. W. Glasscock of Celeste; a son, W. H. Owens of Arlington; a brother, Jack Owens of Grove Hill; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
