She served as a school secretary for the Richardson School District for nearly twenty years, where her husband, the late Joseph Jones "J.J." Pearce, served as the district's superintendent for thirty-one years. Mrs. Pearce died Friday, January 23, 2004, at Presbyterian Village North after a brief illness. She was 93. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 26, 2004, at Restland Funeral Home, 9220 Restland Road in Dallas. Burial will follow. "As with many old-timers, when I think of the Richardson School District, I immediately have in mind Edith and J.J. Pearce because of their association with the district and what they made the school district into," said Bill Passmore, principal for several Richardson schools from 1952 to 1989. Born and reared in Kemp, Texas, Mrs. Pearce graduated from Burleson College in Greenville in 1930. She married Mr. Pearce that year, and they worked at several including Celeste ISD, before moving to Richardson in 1946. Mrs. Pearce served as a school secretary for several schools in Richardson, including the old Greenville Avenue School, now the Richardson Administration Building; Richardson Heights Elementary; Stults Road Elementary; and Mark Twain Elementary School. "She knew the school business as well as my dad, and he would place her in the new school to help the principal get everything started," said her son, Joe A. Pearce of Richardson. "Being in the school business for so long, she knew all the do's and don'ts." She retired in 1970. Six years later, the J.J. Pearce High School auditorium was named in her honor. Mrs. Pearce was a life member of the Texas Congress of PTA's, a life member of the Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority and rter member of the Richardson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her son, Mrs. Pearce is survived by a sister, Jean Bember of Galveston; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Dr. J.J.
