All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** Edith Vina Cotton Pearce Edith Vina Cotton Pearce was born June 26, 1910, at Kemp, Texas and she passed away January 23, 2004, in Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, J. J. Pearce, for whom J. J. Pearce High School was named; parents, George Hallie Churchwell Cotton and Aubrey Alvin Cotton; brother, Churchwell June Cotton. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Joe Alvin Pearce and Kathy Pearce, Richardson; grandson and wife, Joe G. Pearce and Joan Pearce, Wylie, Texas; granddaughter and husband – Karen Pearce Ride and Tim Rike, Richardson; mother of Joe Pearce and Karen Pearce, Joanne Rowe Brucunier; grandson, Jason Pearce, Richardson; five great-grandchildren: Shawn Kegans, Stephen Pearce, Brian Pearce, Erin Pearce, and Kolby Kegans; and sister Jean Bember, Galveston, Texas. Edith was graduated Kemp High School in 1927 and attended Burleson College, Greenville, Texas, from 1927 to 1930, where she was voted the most popular girl. She attended East Texas University and Southern Methodist University. J. J. & Edith married in 1930 and moved to Richardson in 1946 from Celeste, Texas. On November 9, 1976, a dedication ceremony was held naming the auditorium at J. J. Pearce High School the "Edith V. Pearce Auditorium." Edith taught school at Lone Oak, Westminster, Celeste, and League City between 1930-1946; worked as RISD secretary at the old Greenville Avenue School 1952-1955; Richardson Heights Elementary School 1955-1961; Stults Road Elementary School from 1961-1963; and Mark Twain Elementary School 1963-1970. She retired from RISD in 1970. Mrs. Pearce was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Richardson; life member of the Texas Congress of PTA’s; life member of the Retired Teachers Association; member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and a charter member of the Richardson Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday evening, January 25, 2004, at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 26, 2004, at Restland Memorial Chapel with Dr. Brian Harbour officiating. The Pearce family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Dr. J. J. Pearce Scholarship Fund, c/o RISD Council of PTA’s, RISD Administration Building, 400 S.
