All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Lena Harrison Rowell Lena Harrison Rowell, 100, of Greenville, Texas, died Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services were at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 5, 2002, with Rev. James Nance officiating. Burial was in Merit Cemetery. Born March 20, 1902, in Merit, she was the daughter of Isaac Harrison and Jennie Lillard Harrison. She attended school at Merit and later Celeste, where she was a 1920 CHS graduate. She attended Burleson College in Greenville and taught school at Cherry Mound and Savoy before marriage on November 5, 1924, to Dee Rowell in McKinney. Mrs. Rowell was a housewife, a member of the Merit Baptist Church for fifty years, and then a member of the Reavilon Baptist Church for twenty-two years. Mrs. Rowell was a member of the Hopewell Demonstration Club since 1934 and was a 4-H Club member. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Rowell Shields of Tucson, Arizona; a grandson, Rod Shields of Tucson, Arizona; great-grandchildren Jessica Shields, Erin DeYoung, and Gradi Thomson; a great-great-granddaughter, Addison Thomson; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; grandson Willard Shields in 1986; son-in-law Holt Shields in 1994; four brothers and two sisters. Among the pallbearers were Jimmy Patterson and Mark Harrison. Memorials may be made to the Reavilon Baptist Church. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
