He entered the hospital Friday, November 4th, after he fell on the sidewalk just off the northwest corner of the square in Leonard and broke his hip. Final rites were conducted by Rev. James R. Swedenburg at 2:30 PM, Wednesday, November 8, 1961, at the First Baptist Church in Leonard. Casketbearers were deacons of the church. Burial was in Leonard Cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home directing. Mr. Saffold was born in Texas on August 18, 1875, son of John Harden Saffold and Margaret Viana Patrick Saffold. He married Nancy Ann Handley and she preceded him in death. Mr. Saffold was a retired school teacher. The family lived on their farm in the Lane community of Hunt County for a number of years, later moving to Leonard. Mr. Saffold took an active part in the Leonard First Baptist Church where he was a member. Survivors are one son, Dr. James Saffold, Des Plaines, Illinois; six grandsons, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Also, two sisters, Mrs. H. E. Easter, Temple, and Mrs. C. W. Cothran, Paris, survive. Besides his wife, one daughter, Miss Evelyn Saffold, preceded him in death.
