SIMS Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM Saturday, December 29, 1956, for Mrs. Mary C. Sims, 89, who died Friday, December 28, 1956, at 3:30 AM at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lenora Tyler in Garland. Mrs. Sims had been ill for many weeks. The Rev. Gene Alder officiated at the services held in the First Baptist Church in Celeste. Burial was in the Dulaney Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson Funeral Home in Leonard. Pallbearers were grandsons, including Benjamin Smith, Kenneth Tyler, Willie Tyler, Willie Thorp, Boyd Sims, and Billy Stockstill. Born on April 1, 1867, in Shelby County, Alabama, Mrs. Sims was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Etress. In 1885, she was married to M. H. Sims and he preceded her in death in 1936. Mrs. Sims had been a member of the Baptist Church since early womanhood. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Minnie Stockstill, Santo, Teas, Mrs. Ester Thorp, Celeste, Mrs. Mildred Tyler, Sudan, Texas, Mrs. Comora Smith, Celeste, Mrs. Lenora Tyler, Garland; one son, Jonathan Sims, Celeste; and one brother, Wesley Etress, Vincent, Alabama; forty-three grandchildren (including Benjamin Smith, Curtis Smith, Thomas Smith, David Smith, and Claudine Smith of Celeste); sixty-five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
