Annie Laurie England Surratt

Mrs. John E. Surratt, Sr., 87, the former Annie Laurie England, died at her
home in Dallas on January 13, 1974.

Services were at Restland Memorial Chapel on January 14, 1974, conducted by
the Rev. Melvin Carter, associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of
Dallas.

Nephews who were pallbearers included Clifford Granberry, John England, and
Robert F. Lewis, Jr., of Dallas, and Dr. George Y. Siddons of Fort Worth.

Born in Celeste on August 15, 1886, she was one of the nine children of I. M.
England and Flora Kennedy England, pioneer settlers of Hunt County. A brother,
Kennedy England of Dallas, and a sister, Mrs. Robert F. Lewis, Sr., of
Hillsboro, survive.

Other survivors are her two sons, John E. Surratt, Jr., of Dallas and Marshall
E. Surratt of Fort Worth, and her daughter, Mrs. George R. Drews of Dallas;
also, a grandson; three granddaughters; and three great-grandsons.

Laurie (Pet) England was a graduate of Elmwood Institute of Celeste and had
taught school at Prosperity, Hunt County, prior to her marriage to John E.
Surratt, Sr., on August 2, 1909, in Celeste. He was principal of Celeste High
school and a teacher here.

Mrs. Surratt visited in Celeste many times to see her parents, both on the
farm and in town, also visiting her sisters, the late Mmes. Albert Norris and
Leon Puckett.

Mrs. Surratt was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas and
was active in its Women's Missionary Union. She served in the Parent Teacher
Associations where her children attended school, and even in recent years, had
been active in the History Club of Dallas. (Picture)

Annie Laurie Surratt

Annie Laurie England Surratt, 87, was born on August 15, 1886, in Celeste,
Hunt County, Texas, the daughter of I. M. England and Flora Kennedy England.

She died on January 13, 1974, at 4403 Cole Street, Dallas, Dallas County,
Texas (her home).

She had lived in Dallas for fifty-one years. She was a widow.

Her daughter, Mrs. George R. Drews (looks like Ralph) was the informant.

Burial was made on January 14, 1974, Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
