Rastus Verble, 85, longtime resident of the Lane community on Tuesday afternoon at the Celeste Methodist Church. Dr. Harrison Baker of Dallas, officiated, assisted by the pastor, the Rev. Albert Click. Burial was made in Lane Cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Ralph Braddy, Paul Manning, Clifton Childress, Jack Barbee, Earnest Berry, and Loland Fry. Mr. Verble passed away at his home in Celeste on Monday, August 3, 1959, at 9:00 AM. He was born March 11, 1874, in Putman County, Tennessee. His parents were Will L. Verble and Missouri Speck Verble. He came to Texas to settle in the Pike and Lane settlement. He met and married Miss Mable Handley in 1900. The couple remained in the Lane community where they reared their children. In 1957, the couple moved their home to Celeste, where they could enjoy their many fiends in complete retirement. Mr. Verble had been a member of Lane Methodist Church about thirty-five years and a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors are his wife; four sons, John W. Verble of Dallas, Raymond Verble of Ada, Oklahoma, Claude Verble of Dallas, and Lonnie Verble of Talco; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Southerland of Anadarko, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Pat Anhalt of La Jolla, California; also eight grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. S. L. Officer of Cookeville, Tennessee. (August 7, 1959, The Celeste Courier)
