His stone is the tall cylindar shaped one. James Monroe Clinton, Nov 6, 1823- Jan 18, 1881, fought in the Civil War. He is listed as a Captain in the Texas Brigade on the muster roll. J. M. Clinton was mustered in Mt Carmel, Smith co TX on July 15, 1861 in the active company 1 Light Infantry. The Enrolling Officer was David Hill. The General in charge was S. M. Flournoy. James Monroe Clinton was an early Justice of the Peace of Hunt Co, and a member of the Masons. James was the son of Sterling H. Clinton born in SC and Easter McCurdy Clinton b. in NC. Permelia Jane Clinton was the daughter of Thomas Shockley and Cynthia Ann Niblack Shockley. Jane was a member of the Eastern Star. They had 4 children, three of whom are buried in this cemetery. Cynthia Clinton Walden, Thomas Sterling Clinton and William Jackson Clinton. Their other daughter, Georgia Clinton Lilly is buried in Oklahoma.
