Mr. Risley came to Texas in 1878, a fine carpenter and stone mason, and first settled in Clay county on a farm, abandoning mechaics, but he soon tired of the farm and returned to mechantics. He was connected with the building of the court houses in Henrietta and Jacksboro, the jails in Jacksboro and Gainesville, the Masonic Temple at Waco, the Jacksboro flour mill and many of the fine blocks in Jacksboro. In 1899, Risley Brothers started the stone crushing business with a small plant, which was operated for three years, while the Jacksboro stone was being tried and tested. In three years the capacity of the infant plant was too small and in 1902, Risley Brothers & Company was incorporated and one of the largest crushing plants west of the Mississippi was built. Risley Brothers (Ward and Noah) have been very successful contractors and builders and establishing a character for honesty and integrity, rarely reached by any contractors, all regret, to see Mr. Risley have, should he decide to make his future home in Washington. But according to an old adage connected with Jacksboro people who have long resided here he "drank Los Creek water too long to remain away, he will have to come back home and Jacksboro will be ready to welcome him home.
