This is Mrs. A. Burk, owner of the La Mot ranch in La Salle County, near Cotulla. Mrs. Burk is 70 years old and is still actively engaged in directing the ranch. She buys the feed for all stock and directs the purchasing of everything that is used on the ranch. In 1871 Mrs. Burk followed the trail to Kansas with her husband, Mark Burk. She saw the cattle branded on her Texas ranch and saw them driven into slaughter pens in Kansas; she had been with them all the way. During the following period of loose ranging, when Burk was herding his cattle along the banks of Smoky river, Mrs. Burk lived in a tent with her husband until September. Then she remained in Ellsworth, Kansas, until December, when she returned to her home in Texas. At that time the Burks lived in Nueces County. Mrs. Burk now has her ranch in the hands of her nephew, J.W. Baylor. Many Mexicans are employed on the 40,000 acres. For two years the family brought all provisions from Corpus Christi, a distance of about 125 miles. Ð Star Telegram
