B. Garrison on Cambren Creek in Feb 1878 by Bro. J. R. Shinn. J. B. Garrison and wife, A. B. Newman and wife, Mrs. Holder, D. O. Kay and wife, and R. J. Nesbitt and wife composed the original membership. By 10 baptisms and a few other additions the number increased to 26 during the first year. Besides Bro. Shinn, G. F. Mayer, 1879, W. M. Squyres, 1883, J. R. Masters, 1884, John L. McCord, 1887-88, and R. C. Farmer, 1889-90 preached to the congregation at its original location, six miles northeast of Jermyn, a short distance northeast of the cemetery which bears its name. (I take it to mean at the home of J. B. Garrison.) In 1884 twenty of its membership, who lived to the south, organized themselves into the Bethany Church. This left only 10 of the home group. Few in number and with a shifting population, due to the terrific drought of the following years, the church was greatly discouraged. Its location was changed in 1890 from the Lynn Creek school house to the Old Gertrude school house on the north bank of Cambren Creek, five miles north of Jermyn. A revival campaign led by Bro. Farmer resulted in 16 additions by baptism and brought their membership again to 30. W. P. Harmonson preached for them in 1891-93 and Bro. Baugh in 1905. In 1909 J. B. Pyatt, who was doing county missionary work, conducted their revival campaign and the church was somewhat revived after several years of inactivity. He served them as missionary pastor for the year. The town of Jermyn had been built in the meantime and most of the business houses of Gertrude were moving to the new place. Bro. Pyatt persuaded the church to combine forces with the Jermyn church in 1911. Information from “Missionary Baptist Church Work in Jack County” by Dr. S. A. Newman. [Long-time residents of Lynn Creek: Lula Mae Wolfe and Carla Moore stated that to their knowledge, there never was a building for the Lynn Creek Baptist church.]
