W.A. Huffman, one of the most prominent business men of Fort worth, died in Chicago last Sudnay, 29 June 1889. The Gazette, in speaking of his death, days: “The loss of such a man is irreparable; others have passed away and their places have been filled, but the place Walter Huffman occupied, will be vacant, when, it may be, he is remembered no more. There has been no enterprise, business or social to which he has not lent his influence and liberally forwarded with his means. Always in the vanguard of progress. Fort Worth today owes much of its advance to this master mind who, with a ken far exceeding that of common men, saw possibilities and possessed the courage to reach out for them. The loss of such a man is not circumscribed by the circle of his friends and relatives. The effect reaches out in every direction, and a check is to wherever enterprise within the state has known his quickening touch.” J.A. Jasper & Co. J.T. Elliston of Dillingham Prairie. J.B. Townsend of Keechi Religious Meetings Revs. S.J. Vaughan and Whittenberg will begin a camp meeting Friday night before the third Sunday in July at Lynn Creek church. The same preachers will begin a camp meeting at Cottonwood church Friday night before the fourth Sunday in July. Parson’s Presbytery, C.P. will meet at Farmer, Young County on Friday before the second Sunday. Rev. Suttle, Baptist, commenced a meeting at Post Oak last Saturday. Revs. J.I. McCord and J.W. Cearly conducted a meeting at Vineyard. Deaths The hand of death has fallen heavily on Jacksboro and vicinity recently. During the last 10 days three young girls have passed over the river. 1. Miss Zella Russell, eldest daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J.M. Russell was buried only a few days ago. 2. Miss Jennie Thurman, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J.A. Thurman who live a few miles from Jacksboro, died last Thursday and was buried in Oakwood cemetery Friday 3. On Tuesday, Mr. And Mrs. W.J. Craig were bereft of their second daughter, Miss Mary. 4. Mr. And Mrs. Mayfield from near Bowie, who have been stopping in Jacksboro for several weeks on account of sickness were visited by death a little daughter of mine summers beings the victim.
