Gray, died at his home nine miles east of Jacksboro, 17 August 1909. He was born in Colbert county, Alabama, 30 June 1844. He moved to Collin County, Texas in 1882 and resided there until he moved with his family to Jack county in 1896. He enlisted in the Confederate Army from the state of Alabama in the early 1860s and continued in active service until the surrender. That he bore himself gallantly in that memorable struggle goes without saying. No true, braver, defender of the cause of the Confederacy ever wore the Gray. He was a loyal friend, a loving and devoted husband and father a good citizen.
