God called her home on Dec. 14, 2001, at the age of 91 years. Mrs. Denard moved to Jackson County at an early age, and has been a resident of this county continuously. She married Orville Mike Newport on Oct. 24, 1928, at First Baptist Church in Edna. Of this union two daughters were born, Nancy LaVerne and Evelyn Charlene. The Lord called Mike Newport from this life on June 20, 1952. Renie married James Denard, Sr. on March 30, 1960, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Edna. Mr. Denard was called to his heavenly home on Oct. 12, 1970. Mrs. Denard worked as cashier at Ben Franklin’s store for many years. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting and other handwork. She was also an excellent cook and housekeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Edna, where she made her profession of faith and was baptized in July 1923. She was preceded in death by parents; husbands; brother, David Lee Meador, Jr.; and sister, Carmenetta Klaus. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Tipton and husband, J.L. “Tip” Tipton and Charlene Revel and husband, Ray Revel, all of Edna; a grandson, Mike Revel; and two great-grandsons, Jason and Cody Revel; three nieces, Jeanette Klaus Yearwood, Kriseda Meador Fontenot and Virginia Klaus Meyer; a stepson, J James Denard, Jr.; four stepdaughters, Dorothy McCain, Mary Putty, Nancy McElroy and Sylvia Hillard; and several step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jason Revel, Cody Revel, Craig Yearwood, Clint Yearwood, Kevin Meyer and Ernest Meyer. Honorary pallbearers were Kriseda Meador Fontenot, Kathy Hanslick, Johnny Fitzpatrick and Corky Fitzpatrick. Services were held at Oaklawn Funeral Home, 900 Navidad, Edna, 361-782-2221, on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Gilbert officiating. The family has requested that memorials be made to First Baptist Church General Fund or to donor’s choice.
