A memorial service followed at Edna Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Nancy White officiating. Mr. McCallick died Dec. 6. Born Sept. 2, 1920, in El Paso to the late Hugh Henry and Henrietta Collin McCallick, he was a retired Dean of College of Technology at the University of Houston Main Campus and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II and was a member of the Edna Rotary Club. He and the former Betty Mathis were married in Edna on April 6, 1974. A rice farmer and oil and gas developer, he was a consultant to the U.S. Government in Brazil, Pakistan, India, Ecuador, Guatemala, Algeria, Japan, Peru, Columbia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Venezuela beginning in 1964. He was recipient of the Interprofessional Cooperation Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 1976. He also received the James H. McGraw Award in 1970 and the Chester F. Carlson Award in 1977. Survivors include his wife, Betty Mathis McCallick, Edna; daughter, Brooke Brannen Crawley, Los Angeles, Calif.; sons, Michael Brannen, Austin, David Brannen, Houston, and Brent McCallick, Wimberley; brothers, “Bob” Robert McCallick, El Paso, and Ernest McCallick, San Juan Caistrano, Calif.; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents; and brothers, Stanley McCallick and Daniel McCallick. Honorary pallbearers were Lon Drushel, Chester Evans, Phillip Hoffman, Carl Houston, David Rose, John Martin and Callaway Vance. Memorials may be made to the Edna Presbyterian Church and the American Cancer Society.
