Glenna Kelley officiating. Interment followed at Ganado Cemetery under the direction of Ganado Funeral Home. Mr. Whitmire died June 30. Born March 6, 1908, in Ganado to the late J.L. and Mabel Heard Whitmire, he was a retired consignee for Magnolia Petroleum Company and was a member of First United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a charter member of the Ganado Rotary Club. He was honored as “Man of the Year” and also received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his part in the activities of the Ganado Rotary Club. He was recently honored by the Ganado American Legion Post as a member for over 50 years and at the 75th anniversary of the Victoria College as the only living graduate of the class of 1925. He later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1929. He and his wife of 62 years Margaret Wilson Whitmire of Ganado were married July 5, 1939, in Austin. Survivors include his wife; adopted son, Robert C. Kenyan, Del Valley; sister, Joe Ann Watson, Austin; and three grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were members of the First United Methodist Church Choir, Ganado Rotary Club members, Bob and Frances Hultquist, Jimmie and C.W. Silliman, Callaway Vance and Annette Sanford.
