Vol. 16, No. 22, Ed. 1 Friday, May 28, 1880, Page 3 May 28, 1880 The commissioners court, which met on last Monday to open the bids for building the Jail, awarded the contract to H. W. Bendy, Jr., who bid two thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine dollars. The Jail to be built of brick, according to the specifications. To secure the building according to contract the court required a bond, with good and sufficient security, in the the [sic] sum of four thousand dollars. Jails as a rule are not considered oraments [sic] to a town, but we hope to see the one erected in Jasper, approach as near the ornamental as is consistent with the greatest strength.
