Beaty Charges With Assault With Intent to Murder. Following a disagreement of several weeks standing, W. H. Holmes received gunshot wounds in the head yesterday morning in an altercation with ex-State Senator J. T. Beaty. The shooting took place at the front door to the postoffice at 11:30 o'clock. The origin of the trouble which occasioned the incident, is said to be a lawsuit in which the two principals were involved. Mr. Holmes' injuries, uncertain at first, were found not to be serious when he had been carried to Hardy-Hancock Hospital for treatment. The bullet, fired from a pistol at close range, tore away several teeth, broke the jaw bone and embedded itself in two pieces in the flesh of the check [sic] and the chin. After treatment of the wounds, he was carried to his home. Senator Beaty, who was charged with assault with intent to murder, waived examining trial, and made bond in the amount of $500 awaiting the action of the grand jury.
