M'WILLIAMS DIED YESTERDAY. - Noble Woman Passes Away After Residence in Waco of 43 years. Funeral This Afternoon. Mrs. Mary Jane McWilliams, aged 67 years, wife of W. H. McWilliams, died at 6:50 p.m. yesterday at the family home, 1600 Clay street. Stricken with illness three weeks ago, Mrs. McWilliams suffered intensely and until a week ago was considered dangerously ill. Then a change for the better appeared and family and friends were happy over the prospect for her recovery. But, disease had done its work. Her vitality had been destroyed and Saturday she began sinking. Still there was hope and everything skilled physicians and loving relatives and friends could do was done, but only to keep the spark of life aglow for a short while. Born in Jasper county, Texas, on January 10, 1849, deceased was reared in the city of Jasper, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Blackmon. She was married to W. H. McWilliams in Newton county May 31, 1866, removing to Waco in September, 1873. Eight children blessed this union, three girls and five boys. Three boys are living, Jesse W. of New Orleans, Charles M. of Houston and Robert C. of Waco. The two sons out of the city did not arrive until this morning. Besides the husband and children named, Mrs. McWilliams is survived by a brother, M. H. Blackmon of Clariett, Texas. Other relatives here are Mrs. J. N. Springer of Niles, Tex., and Mrs. M. N. Dowdy of Clairett, Tex. Professing religion when only 12 years of age, Mrs. McWilliams kept the faith and was never happier than when given the opportunity to do good. Devoted to her family, her life's aim was to contribute to their happiness. A noble woman, a worthy Chirstian [sic] wife and mother and friend, her life here was a benediction of glorious example of a Christian woman who is rich in treasures garnered in this world for eternal happiness in the Great Beyond. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock, interment at Oakwood. The following pallbearers have been selected, J. A. Dryden, T. P. Stone, W. G. Russell, S. L. Jones, W. H. Davis and W. H. Jenkins. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/tx/jasper/obits/m/mcwillia408nob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.net/txfiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
