Mrs. Elizabeth Alice Smith, nee Tucker, Texas pioneer, died last Thursday in Beaumont at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. J. Sanders. Burial took place Saturday afternoon at Beech Grove with the Rev. J. A. Smart of Beaumont and the Rev. Jno. J. Bell of Jasper Officiating. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. W. J. Sanders and Mrs. Alice McMahon of Beaumont, Mrs. R. B. Smith and Miss Nannie Smith of Ulvalde, Mrs. Johnson Lewis of Deweyville and two sons, Clyde Smith of Merryville, La., and W. E. Smith of Beech Grove. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters; Walter Tucker of Woodville, Robert Tucker of Lufkin and Jas. Tucker of Silsbee, and Mrs. Rebecca Rich of Austin, Mrs. Frank Rigsby and Mrs. Emma Hicks of Jasper. Mrs. Smith was born in Bibb County, Ala., in 1844. She came overland in a covered wagon with her family in 1866, to Tyler county, the trip taking about three months. She married Green B. Smith of Jasper County in 1870. She was a member of the Baptist church.
