The News-Port Arthur- Feb. 13, 2008
Mr. Van McDaniel, of Port Arthur, died Monday at Christus St. Mary Hospital.  
A native of Port Arthur, Van graduated with the Class of 1961 from Lincoln 
High School. He was retired from the Port Arthur Independent School District 
and the United States Navy. A graveside memorial service is scheduled for 
11:30 A.M. Thursday, February 14th, at Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. Wayne 
Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery under 
the direction of Gabriel Funeral HOme. Survivors include his wife Sandra; two 
daughters, DeEdria (Leo) Bourgeois of Katy, Texas and LaToya McDaniel of 
Austin, Texas; and three grandchildren, Bre'Onna McDaniel, Amber Bourgeois, 
and Van Bourgeois. He is preceded in death by his parents: Irene and Lawyer 
McDaniel, Sr.; a brother, Lawyer McDaniel Jr.; and a sister, June Martin. He 
is also survived by three brothers, Floyd (Peggy) McDaniel of Wellington, 
Florida, Carl McDaniel and Glenn (Willa) McDaniel of Port Arthur, Texas; one 
sister, Marilyn (Bannister) Baptiste of Port Arthur, Texas; and a host of 
aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. In lieu of 
flowers, the family requests donations be made in Van McDaniel's name to the 
First Sixth Street Baptist Church Education Building Fund.

Additional Comments:
His father, Lawyer McDaniel,was born in Leon County, Texas. His grandparents 
were Thomas and Mary (Burns) McDaniel. They are buried in Two Mile Cemetery in 
Leon County.
