H. MARTIN Funeral Rites for Woman Of Prominent Texas Family Set for Thursday Mrs. Lena Ward Martin, 47, wife of Hugh Martin, and daughter of the late John Ward, pioneer east Texas capitalist and lumberman, died at the John Ward home, 1685 Park street, at 11:30 P.M. Wednesday following a 13 months’ illness. ATTENDED BAYLOR Mrs. Martin, a native east Texan, was born in Nona, Texas, where John Ward owned a lumber mill. Before she completed her common school education, the Ward family moved to Waco where Mrs. Martin was enrolled in Baylor academy. She later attended Baylor university at Waco. She was married in Waco on June 6, 1906, to Hugh Martin. She and Mr. Martin went to Itasca, Texas, to reside but moved to this city about 24 years ago, and had since made their home here. The Martin home was at 1909 Park street, but since her illness, Mrs. Martin had been at the Ward home. AT WARD HOME Surviving besides her husband are her mother, Mrs. John Ward; one daughter, Mrs. George E. Bryant, Jr., one grandson, George E. Bryant; five brothers, Harry Levy Ward of Chicago, Carroll E. Ward, Marshall King Ward, Kyle Ward, and Jack Ward, all of this city, two sisters, Mrs. S.W. Stafford, and Mrs. E.B. Kelso, both also of this city. Mrs. Martin was a member of the Baptist church and belonged to the Woman’s club here. Funeral services will be held at the Ward home at 4 p.m. Thursday. A Baptist minister who served the church in Itasca where Mr. and Mrs. Martin, attended services over a quarter of a century ago, will likely officiate. Interment under the direction of Pipkin & Brulin will be in Magnolia cemetery.
