Cowsert filed on One-Fourth Town Section W.J. Cowsert moved to Anson in 1881 from Coleman County, moving from Fannin County to Coleman. He came to Anson and started to file on T.D. Goodwin's land, two miles northwest of Anson, but Mr. Goodwin had beaten him to it and directed Mr. Cowsert to the northeast quarter of the town section, which was still open. Mr. Cowsert filed on this land and erected the first house in that part of town, which is still standing. Later he moved nine miles east of town, to a farm he bought from Dr. L.W. Hollis in the early days of Jones county he was made deputy sheriff. His children are: Mrs. Edna E. Russell of Anson T.L. Cowsert of Arizona Mrs. D.A. Hamm of Abilene W.M. Cowsert of Anson J.H. Cowsert of Abilene Mr. Coswert died in August 1899. Mrs. Cowswert resides in Anson
