Johnson, deceased, who humanity in a more enduring through his active work as a Baptist minister. Doubtless he had more to do with the organization of Baptist churches in Jones County than any man. Dr. Johnson was born 17 January 1835, in Tennessee, and died here 11 July 1906. He and his family moved from Tennessee to Jones county, landing here 26 January 1882. Dr. Johnson has one son, Rev. T.B. Johnson, who is highly honored in the ministry by Baptists in the North, now being in Pulaski, Virginia. Other children are: Alva Curtis Johnson of Stamford; Mrs. Dr. M. William Rogers of Rule; Mrs. Robert G. Prichard of Hawley; Albert W. Johnson died in Dallas in 1927; Walter Johnson died at Stamford in 1925. The following story as to churches organized in Jones county by Dr. Johnson has been corroborated in all instances by living people who were members of the church at the time or from records. Curtis Johnson has worked hard to get reliable information. Dr. Albert Johnson's first work in this line was the organization of the Bethel Baptist church in 1884 at the Antelope school house. He next organized the New Hope church in 1887, at Spring Creek, which was later moved to New Hope. He next effected the organization of the Prairieview church and in 1888 the Fairview church near Tuxedo, where he was assisted by Rev. J.M. Ashburn, father of J.B. Ashburn, G.K. Ashburn, and E.D. Ashburn. In 1887 he was the means of bringing into existence the Neinda church at the Plum Creek school house and in 1892 the Liberty church, and in the same year the Pleasant Hill church, in which he was assisted by Rev. G.W. Scarborough and Rev. A.M. Testerman. In 1903 the Wise Chapel church was brought into existence through his efforts, as well as was the Corinth church in 1903. In addition Dr. Johnson was pastor of the Nugent church in 1893-1894; and of the Shiloh church from November 1894 to November 1895; and was first pastor of the Baptist church at Round Mound, and doubtless other Baptist churches of which there is little recalled.
