Randolph and family moved from Bell County in 1887, purchasing railroad land, 320 acres, at Carpenter's Gap, the homestead being owned and occupied by W.D. Shirley in 1933. Randolphs moved to Anson about 1914, leaving Anson in 1916 for Lubbock, where J.W. Randolph died in 1931. Mrs. Randolph died seven months prior to the husband. Five children survive as follows: Joe Randolph of Stephenville Mrs. W.W. Pieatt Mrs. M.E. Witt Mrs. Clay Dean of Lubbock Clay Randolph of Lamesa Clay Randolph recalls vividly his mother's killing a wildcat with a mesquite limb on this place in the early days. A brother also knocked one from a tree with a rock, and barely was able to get to his horse when the enraged animal took after him.
