Ward and family moved from Tennessee to Jones County in 1881, filing on land from Texas near Funston, now owned by Mrs. Mary Carlton. W.A. Ward served as Jones County Surveyor during the early days, and as Jones County Treasurer from 1904 to 1908. J.W. Ward died February 1920. Mrs. Ward died a few years later. Eight children were born to this union: Mrs. A.S. Barkley Mrs. W.R. Logan of Anson Louis T. Ward of Abilene Mrs. Mattie Fisher of Abilene Joe C. Ward of Abilene Mrs. Jess Burdine of Tyler mrs. Myrtle Fry died at Abilene in 1932 Sim F. Ward died near Canyton in 1925 Joe Ward died two weeks ago or since this story was written.
