It was named for J.L. Swan who gave the land for the building. The first teacher was a Mr. Cross. In 1914 this school was consolidated with Crow School. It was a three-room school until 1924 when a 4th room was added, and a teacherage was placed on the school ground in 1926. Some of the old settlers who helped to build up this community are J.L. Swan, T.M. Harrell, Walter Harrell, B. Compton, R. Anderson and I.M. Gillespie. The land for the present school building was donated by L.M. Harrell. There is only one church in this community, the Church of Christ. Some of the people attend churches nearby. A music class was added to the school in 1929. There are many good homes in this community and most of the people own their land.
