BRYANT IN BUSINESS HALF CENTURY J.C. Bryant of Stamford has perhaps the longest record in business in Jones County, his first experience back to 1884 in Anson when he engaged in the hardware business, which he later sold to R.L. Penick. George H. Baker, who died in Anson 3 May 1928, bought an interest with John W. Davis, a brother-in-law, in a dry goods store in 1889 in Anson, moving here in 1891. Later J.C. Bryant bought the Davis interest, the business branching out to Stamford, Aspermont and Munday. Mr. Baker later confined his business to Anson, Hawley and Sylvester. Going to Stamofrd with the advent of the railroad, Mr. Bryant opened up the Baker-Bryant store and a branch at places mentioned above. The firm operated under the names of Bryant and Foster, Bryant and Martin, Baker-Bryant and Company, and for years as Bryant-Link Company, and opened up numerous stores. These pioneer merchants rendered a great service in the aiding worthy families during the hard years, some of whom could not have remained here without the help. Bryant married a Jones County girl, Miss Sallie Huie, the sister of Frank Huie of Anson. His son, Bernard Bryant is manger of the Stamford House and Billie Bryant is manager of the Hamlin house of Bryant-Link Company.
