The Central Presbyterian Church was organized in 1899 and their first church was begun in 1900 on the same spot upon which the church stood in 1927. Rev. F.E. Leech supervised the building of the church and Dr. Ward was the first pastor. The first auxiliary was organized in the fall 1900 in the back of Miss Mayme BarnettŐs millinery shop on the east side of the square. Early members of the church were Mr. and Mrs. Blankenbeckler, Capt and Mrs. Rayner, Mr. and Mrs. Whittington, Mrs. J.D. Green, Mrs. Tom Upshaw (then Miss Josie Ragsdale) and Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Moody.
