All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** The Western Enterprise Anson, Jones County, Texas Thursday, August 26, 1933 50th Anniversary Edition James Maxwell and family came from Cooke County to Jones County in January 1889, buying a farm from the Swensons near Tuxedo. About 1895 the family moved to Anson, buying the old Tyson hotel, which was being operated at the time by George Castles. Mr. Maxwell build an additon in the front, improving the same. A fire broke out in the rear of the building in 1904, resulting in the second disastrous fire in Anson. He served as county tax assessor from 1905 to 1909. He died 23 March 1926 in Anson. Mrs. Maxwell died in May 1919 in Anson. Children living are: Mrs. Dew Womack of Anson Mrs. M.M. Knox of Anson J.R. Maxwell of Denton
