Scott, known as "Shinnery" Scott, came to Jones county in 1879 and settled a camp just south of the town section, where Anson now stands. Scott's camp was composed of the following personnel: S.A. Scott, his wife and children P.M. Scott, his wife and two children Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Nichols Dave Nichols and wife Mr. McCormick, a Methodist preacher and his wife and several children Mr. and Mrs. Riley and family - Mrs. Riley was the first person buried in the Anson cemetery
