Harvey will preach his farewell sermon to the Stamford Church of Christ next Sunday. The morning subject will be “The Relationship of Christ and Christians,” and the evening subject will be “The Bible and our Constitution.” Mr. Harvey has been preacher of the local church organization for three years and during that time 143 have been added to the church. The Bible class has grown from 60 to 141, an addition built onto the church building at a cost of $1276 and a tent bought for missionary work costing $500. Mr. Harvey was born and reared in Jones County and has spent his whole life here except eight years in school at Abilene. He has been preaching in and around Stamford for seven years and during that time has led 463 to accept Christ, built one new church, remodeled and improved four, and organized and set to work several new congregations. He is yet a young man and is thoroughly consecrated to his work and burning with zeal to accomplish great things for his Lord and His kingdom in the world. Brother Harvey is going to Haskell. W.R. Etchison, 82 years, father of Mrs. Jack Jones of our city passed away at his home in Waco Thursday of apoplexy. On Monday night, October 13, at 7:00 at the family home in the Spring Creek community, Mrs. H. Vaught passed away after a long illness. She was a Christian when a young girl and had lived her 71 years. She was married 56 years ago to Mr. H. Vaught in the state of Indiana, and he and her three children, Mrs. H.C. Walters of Swans Chapel, H.T. and J.T. Vaught of The Spring Creek community survive her. The family came to McClellan County, Texas, 52 years ago and 14 years ago came to their present home. Funeral took place Tuesday afternoon at Swan’s Chapel cemetery with J.D. Harvey conducting same after which interment took place. Barrow Undertaking department in charge. On Friday evening at 7:15, Mr. Rufus Anderson, 81 years, passed away at the family residence on South Wetherbee Street, this city. Mr. Anderson is one of the country’s pioneer citizens having settled here some 35 years ago when settlers were scarce, locating at Swans Chapel where he lived until removing to his late home in Stamford. He was married 58 years ago to Miss Mary Eller in Kentucky, and she and their nine children survive him: Ed, Alvia, Grayson, Fred, Paul, Mrs. Florence Cannon, Mrs. J.L. Hunter and Mrs. C.E. Phelps of Stamford and a son, Date of Haskell, all of them were at the bed side. Mr. Anderson had lived a conservative Christian life early united with the Church of Christ. Funeral services were Saturday afternoon with J.D. Harvey officiating the interment. Barrow Funeral Undertaking was in charge. Mrs. Aaron Wood of Fort Worth died Saturday morning while visiting her daughter, Mrs. B.B. Alford. Mrs. Wood formerly lived here with her husband who met death in a street car accident in February at San Diego their later home. The body was shipped to San Diego, Cal., for burial, where a son resides and her husband is buried. Robert G. Ladd, Sr., passed away at his home on West Oliver Street during Thursday night. He was born in Hunt County, Texas, 64 years ago and was married to Miss Nannie England 38 years ago and she with their six living children: W.J. of Lamesa; J.W., R.G., Jr., Mrs. Dewey Stubbs of Stamford; Mrs. Joe Brooks of San Angelo and Mrs. Ed Boutin of Newton, Kans. Deceased came to West Texas 30 years ago, settling in Abilene, coming to Stamford 8 years ago. Serving as County Treasurer for Jones County six years. Funeral services were held at the family home at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon with Rev. D.B. Doak, St. Johns church in charge. Interment at Highland cemetery with Barrow Furniture Undertaking in charge. Four generations eat together Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Wedeking were at home for lunch. Mrs. Sarah Rhodes grandmother of Mrs. Wedeking, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Binnicker, her parents and Mrs. Wedeking and children comprising four generations. The little baby of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mimms, who has had spinal trouble all its life, died late Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Mimms’ mother, Mrs. Royall. Interment was made on Tuesday.
