The Hitson Community was shocked last Saturday night when about 1:00 it was seen that the Baptist church was in flames. About 35 years ago the ground where the Hitson Union Church now stands became public property for church purposes. The place was one of the old landmarks. But recently since the community has grown, the Baptist people decided to have an individual church, and took steps to acquire a suitable house. Funds have been accumulated for several months and solicitations were not only made in the immediate community, but in towns. Finally the leaders in the undertaking got a chance to purchase the Round Top School House at a bargain. Ground for the house was donated by Dr. A.E. Pardue just east and across the road from the old church and the school house was moved thereon, just a few days before the recent rain. Arson is suspected.
