The building faces on Hamilton Street a little west and across the street from the Bell Telephone office. The fire apparently originated in the company office and the office furniture and equipment were a total loss. The building has cement floor and brick walls so the damage to the building will not be great. Manager Frank B. Ramsey would not hazard a guess as to the stock damage. Cecil Biggs, bookkeeper, and O.S. Cutbirth, shipping clerk were all at home when the alarm was given. John Ester, night policeman, had been by and no evidence that the building was entered had been seen. C.Y. Early of the head office of Walker-Smith Company in Brownwood and insurance adjusters would be in town on Thursday. The building belongs to Scott Bros., owners of the Stamford Flour Mill, will repair the building immediately. Robertson Bros, & Edmonson of New Orleans, have opened a new cotton exchange in the R.B. Spencer building and will carry the account of Fenner & Beane, of New Orleans and New York. The old express company office in the Spencer building on West Hamilton has been furnished for the cotton office and makes a swell office on the first floor next door to the Stamford Cotton & Produce Company. Mr. Edmonson, member of the firm is here. R.E. Hall, formerly with the Katy railway telegraph office here will handle the telegraph instruments and mark the board. W.T.
