S.C. McClurkan, a farmer about 55 years of age, was killed at his home just beyond California Creek on the Stamford-Anson road Wednesday evening. The body was prepared for burial and shipped by the Penick-Hughes undertakers to Denton, Texas, former home of the McClurkans. Finis Goree, young farmer of that community, and a son-in-law of McClurkan, was arrested by Sheriff Tom Hudson, shortly thereafter and taken to jail at Anson and charged with the killing. The Goree family have lived in the community for many years and are widely known in the county. McClurkan has lived here only a few years and rents from McLaughlin. According to reports of those knowing the family, young Goree and his wife had separated, and she had returned to her fatherís. Friday morning, Mrs. J.C. Morris, nee Miss Etta Lawson, formerly of our city had passed away on Thursday night at Roswell, NM where she had removed with her husband two years ago for her health. She had apparently improved greatly until about 10 days ago when serious heart trouble set up. Her mother, Mrs. J.P. Lawson and brother, M.L. went to be with her, the former remaining to be with her. Her brothers, E.P., W.E., O.E. and M.L. went to Roswell Thursday night, arriving after her death. The body was shipped to Stamford and the funeral was held at St. Johnís church Sunday with Rev. D.B. Doak conducting and Penick Hughes Undertaking department in charge. Interment followed at Highland cemetery. Among the mourners at the funeral was an old family negro servant who had been with the family for 50 years and asked to attend. Besides the husband and mother, five brothers, W.E. and E.P. of Stamford; W.H. of Wichita; M.L. of Rotan; O.E. of Hamlin and two sisters - Mrs. C.H. Mullican of Munday; Mrs. I.L. Connally of Haskell. Mrs. R.B. Berryhill died at the family home in Bomar Heights in Stamford Monday evening at 7:00 of abscess on the brain. She was 23 years of age. Husband survives. Funeral took place Tuesday afternoon with Barrow Furniture Undertaking department in charge with burial in Highland cemetery. Mrs. B.F. Hickman who died at her late home in El Paso was shipped here and funeral took place on Thursday with interment at Highland cemetery, Barrow Furniture Undertaking department in charge. The husband was buried here five years ago, the family residing here at that time and they were among the cityís finest. A son from Aspermont and other relatives and many old friends attended the funeral of this good woman. Sunday morning at 8:00, T.H. Lawrence, father of Mrs. G.L. Inglish and Sid Lawrence of Stamford, died at his home in Kingsville, Texas. He had reached 83 years old. Funeral and interment took place at Bonham on Monday afternoon. Mrs. T.S. Hoover was called to Hico this past week as her mother, Mrs. McGee of Hico passed away on Monday at 2:30 p.m. Rotary Club to buy baseball suits for the boys of Stamfordís grad schools. Prof. Witt, athletic director of the elementary schools. Mr. F.M. Johnson has the contract to build the new limestone filling station at the old Bryant-Link corner in Lueders and advertise the famous Lueders Limestone and incidentally the Lueders Stone Quarry. Joe Burgess has bought a new light plant to furnish light for Lueders. Mrs. J.A. Carrigan The Carrigan Hotel 208 E. Oliver Street Mrs. Lawrence King, nee Miss Nollie Pennell, of Hamlin, has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pennell of South Swenson, and her sister, Mrs. Carrigan, of the Carrigan Hotel, left Wednesday morning for Spur, where she goes to join her husband, who has taken a position at the City Drug Store.
