W.M. Brown of Lamesa, brother of J.T.W. Brown, owner and manager of Brownís Cash Grocery, on S. Ferguson Street, has leased the new brick building next to the Stamford Motor Company and will open a general grocery business by August 1. Last Saturday morning, Mrs. Fred Risley passed away at the family home at Lueders. Funeral and burial took place Saturday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest at the family burial ground near Lueders. Survivors are husband and children; Barrow Furniture Company Undertaking in charge. Finishing touches are being put on the Astin-Larche-Owen block on the east side this week. Larche is already moved and the Palace Barber Shop was opened yesterday in one of the Astin buildings. The Davenport-Upshaw bricks on East Hamilton are finished and are ready to be occupied. The west building will be occupied by Vaughnís Bakery. Ed Wakefield will open a swell little cafe in half of the east building as soon as his furniture and fixtures can be installed. J.E. Jackson, Ferguson street grocer, is getting ready to rush construction of his new grocery store. It will be a 25 x 80 store brick and designed especially for an M System grocery. Mayes and Pinson will open a gents furnishing business in one of the Astin buildings. Mr. Mayes has been in business in Spur, Abilene and Eastland. Pinson will not be active in the business, as he will remain telephone manager and interested in a financial way. The Wall-Joiner gents furnishing store to open in the room formerly occupied by the Larche Gro. on the north side about read. The new firm comes from Hamlin and Sweetwater.
