Frank Adams J. Frank Adams died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, August 10. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D.B. Doak at St. Johnís Methodist church Monday afternoon at 4:00. Out-of-town relatives: brothers of Mrs. Adams from El Paso. Mrs. Stephens, sister of deceased of Lubbock; W.H. Littlefield, postmaster of Anson; C.B. Rowland, postmaster of Hamlin; M.B. Howard, postmaster at Sweetwater, and G.A. Gray, Anson Mr. Adams was born August 4th, 1875, hence was 50 years and 7 days at his death. He had lived in Stamford for many years, being a barber before he became postmaster. Money now here to pay for Harmon Foundation Childrenís Playgrounds Luther Nelson, 51, a Swede farmer living in the Ericksdahl community lost his life by drowning in the flood waters of California Creek on Saturday evening about 7:00. He had been to Stamford and was returning to his home and attempted to cross the swollen stream on the Swede dam and was washed off the dam into the whirlpool below. His team of mules were also drowned and his spring wagon was wrecked. Leonard Youngquist of that community was at the dam when Nelson drove onto it and warned him of the danger, but he had crossed earlier in the day and thought he could do it again. The water was about four feet over the dam at the time and very swift. When the mules went off, Nelson jumped but the water was so swift he was carried over the dam and his head was beaten against the rocks below. Barrow Undertakers took charge of the body for preparation for burial. The inquest verdict was accidental drowning. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church at Ericksdahl Monday morning at 9:00 and burial in the cemetery there. Nelson was a quiet, non-communicative man and went about his own business. He was very poor and had 10 children, most of them small, his wife dying five years ago. The neighbors paid for his burial quietly after the custom of the Swedish people. He was janitor of the Lutheran church before his death. His oldest son, Fred, has now taken the job. [tombstone in cemetery: Olof Luther Nelson: Nov. 15, 1873 - Aug. 8, 1925; Hilma Jackson Nelson: July 23, 1876 - Dec. 31, 1919: wed Mar. 30, 1898] Mrs. [Wiley Samuel] Sam [Mary Emma] Taylor passed away Sunday afternoon at the family home at Pleasant Valley. She is survived by her age husband and several children. Burial took place at New Hope Monday with Barrow Furniture Company Undertaking department in charge. Robt. L. Scott will come from Abilene to Stamford to be manager of the Reed Brothers Garage on North Swenson Ave. S.E. Reed needed a man to take care of business for him. Lillie Belle Gibbs, little two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Gibbs of the New Hope Community passed away Monday. Funeral was conducted at Highland cemetery by Rev. J.M. Youree, pastor of Central Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon. Barrow Furniture Company was in charge.
