Mrs. L.V. Ellington, formerly of Stamford, died in Brownwood, Thursday, September 17, at 10:30 p.m. and was buried in Stamford at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Ellington, who was formerly Miss Annie Bradley, was closely associated during her lifetime with many of the historical figures of the Old South. She was born in Maringo county, AL, April 19, 1846. She was educated at Huntsville Female College in Alabama. Her parents moved to Bellevina, Alabama, where in 1876 Miss Bradley was married to Luther V. Ellington, a local preacher and teacher. To this happy union, one child was born, mrs. J.C. Epps of Brownwood, Teas, who with her husband and two children came to Stamford with the body for burial. Mrs. Ellington enjoyed some privileges and carried some honors that very few people have. At one time, she was a private governess in the home of Gen. Joseph Wheeler of Civil War fame. As teachers in Middle Tennessee, she and her husband taught the grand children of Alexander Campbell, the founder of the Christian church. Later, down in Alabama, they taught the grand children of Robert Donald, the founder of the Cumberland Presbyterian church. About 1895, she and her husband came to Texas and taught at different places as long as they were able to work. She joined the Methodist church when a child and was a faithful efficient member. She was a musician and interpreted the gospel song and praise. She grew old gracefully although an invalid for 10 years. Funeral was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Moore, on North Swenson avenue, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Rev. A.L. Moore, presiding elder of the Stamford district; Rev. D.B. Doak, pastor of St. Johnís Methodist church, and Rev. J.D. Crockett, superannuate of the Northwest Texas Conference were in charge. Penick-Hughes Co. was in charge. Lueders Leader has good word for the American. Mamie Welch, age about 7, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Welch, died at the home of her parents in Haskell last Friday. Child was buried in the Haskell cemetery Saturday.
