Johnson, principal of the colored school in Stamford. Houston, Texas, Dec. 12 - J.S. Morrow, who organized the first bank in Jones County, at Anson, the county seat, died here Friday. Mr. Morrow located at Anson in 1884, entering the drug business. He organized the Anson State Bank in 1888 and organized and operated a bank in a tent in 1900. The latter bank is the Stamford State Bank, of Stamford. He was president of both banks until he retired in 1920 and move to Houston. Mr. Morrow is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Morrow, one son - W.M. Morrow, of Snyder, Scurry county, and one daughter - Miss Ora Morrow of Houston. He was uncle of F.E. Morrow, president of the Stamford State Bank. This bank was closed Saturday out of respect to the deceased. N.A. McMillan has purchased Jackís cafe on the southside of the square from Jack Townsend. Mr. McMillan has changed the name to Mackís cafe. J.A. Loftin resigns as secretary of local Chamber of Commerce. R.F. "Uncle Buck" Gillespie who lives a few miles southeast of Stamford mentioned that he has picked 5,000 pounds of cotton this fall. In all of his 70 years, he has never taken a dose of medicine prescribed by a doctor. ìUncle Buckî lives alone and does his own cooking. He is s pioneer of West Texas, a native Texan and has lived in Jones County since 1908. Funeral services for Mrs. C.T. Overby, who died at her home here Tuesday morning, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 at St. Johnís Methodist church. Services conducted by Rev. R.A. Stewart, pastor of the church and Rev. A.L. Moore, presiding elder of the Stamford district. Mrs. Overby was born in Georgia, December 10, 1878, being 47 years old at the time of her death. She came to Texas soon after her marriage to Mr. Overby. For a few years they lived at Waco, but came to this section in the early days of Stamfordís history. For 12 years they resided at Flat Top Ranch and moved to Stamford a few years ago. Mrs. Overby was a faithful worker in St. Johnís Methodist church. Besides her husband, she is survived by her son, Gene, and by a brother and sister who reside in Georgia. Barrow Furniture took care of arrangements. Otis Caton has resigned as manager of the R.M. Kinard Motor Company to accept a place as assistant manager of the Joseph Schwarts Company in New Orleans.
