Capt. J.B. Carnohan and his son, W.L. were in town today. R.A. Arnold went to Neinda and McCaulley on business. Judge C.C. Ferrell spent time at Flat Top. Mr. Hugh Wommack and Miss Nora Maxwell were married last Sunday evening at 7 o’clock. McCaulley Col. Poplin has bought J.H. Reed’s Mercantile business and W.D. Owens bought some land from S.J. Wilson and has also secured lots and has lumber on the ground for his residence. Also a blacksmith and wood shop. Mr. John Ammons died last week and was buried at the Neinda cemetery. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Jim Harris on the 7th, a boy. Rev. Jones filled his appointment at this place Sunday. W.R. Brown and family at the Gyp Hill country, attended services here Sunday. New Liberty School House. On last Sunday evening at the home of Mr. Will Jones, Mr. H. Jarred and Miss Julia Jones were married. The Liberty Literary society was started up again and had their first meeting Saturday night. Local and Personal P.P. Berthelot went to Waco Tuesday. Will Marr and wife of Aspermont, left on Tuesday’s train for Dallas. The post office was moved yesterday into its new quarters west of the old stand. G.T. Knox of Anson left on Wednesday’s train for Whitney to attend Presbytery. Mr. Will Fisher left on the train Wednesday morning to visit his sister, Mrs. Long Cunningham in Abilene. Rev. J.A. Biggs left for Goldthwait to assist in a meeting. He will stop at Mullen to see his daughter, Miss Octavia. Prof. McDonald has organized a debating society in public school house. Miss Josie Williams died at the home of her parents near Haskell Wednesday morning. The corpse was brought to Stamford Thursday and placed on the train for interment at Forney. Mr. Spielberg says he is locating many Germans in this country and that in five years it will be necessary to ship any fruit to this country. only tropical fruit, and that we will be growing our own vegetables. L.C. Smith has been in Dallas this week on business. C.L. Mistrot came in from Comanche Monday evening. G.P. Whiteside returned from a business trip to Dallas. J.A. Weaver renewed subscription. G.J. Miller of Haskell, was called to Tyler Wednesday to see his daughter, who was seriously burned. P.E. Morgan, three mile south of Stamford has pure bred Poland China, pigs for sale at $3 each. Mrs. Miles Hanchett, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. E.H. Perry, left Wednesday morning for her home at Sherman. J.W. Collins brought his daughter, Miss Tory, and placed her on the train for school at Tehuacana. Col. Thomas Farmer and Col. J.P. McDaniel are making a tour through the Stamford country. Rev. J.H. Chambliss of Haskell will preach at the Methodist church in Stamford next Sunday and Sunday night. Mr. S.W. Scott brought his wife and children over from Haskell Wednesday morning and placed them on the train to visit Mrs. Scott’s mother, who is sick at her home in Woodward, Okla. Last Saturday night the colored population, men and women held a “razee” near Charlie’s residence on Swenson Avenue. There was a dance at the oil mill and Charlie’s endeavor to prevent his sister’s attendance. At the dance, later, one buck, is cutting in the pigeon wing drop his pistol and fearing the officers he left next morning for other parts. Robert Montgomery and Miss Lillie Rike were married at the home of the bride’s mother in Haskell, Tuesday. Rev. J.H. Chambiss officiating. Mr. Montgomery and bride came over Wednesday morning and left for St. Louis and Chicago to be gone two weeks.
