Married - Mr. John Hogan and Mrs. Claudie Cook at Anson, Sunday, March 19th. Mr. Hogan has been driving the Haskell mail hack for several years. Mrs. Cook has been living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Whooten in Stamford. From Pinkerton Rev. I.L. Mills filled his regular appointment at the Methodist church. Mrs. J.S. Barnett returned from Cameron. The friends of Mae Terrell are happy to see her after an attack of lagrippe. The little four year old child of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bailey died last Monday after several days with pneumonia. Ligon Tailoring Co., North side square. W.T. McAda of the old Sandersville community called at the office. G.W. Brown, of near Funston, renewed subscription to the News. Mr. Brown is an old citizen of Jones county having settled his present home in 1886. Mr. Brown is one of the oldest Masons in the county having joined the order in 1850 in Lupkin, Ga. Ligon Tailoring Co., have opened up for business 4 doors east of Mistrot Bros., north side of square. Mr. Ligon is from Abilene and was interested in the Abilene Steam Laundry previous to the fire which destroyed the plant March 1st. He lived in Abilene 6 years. the Stamford News Friday, March 31, 1905 Vol. 6, No. 6 Anson Allsorts Jess Kennedy has gone to Fort Worth to take an examination for the Railway Mail. Mr. Frank P’Pool and family of Munday are on a visit. Mrs. Malone, formerly of Anson, but now of Stamford is visited by Mrs. White, her sister-in-law. The following marriage licenses were issued: W.V. Triplett to Miss Nannie Pinkston; W.L. Taylor to Miss Lorena Hutchinson; John F. Hogan to Mrs. Claudie Cook; Sam D. Parks to Miss Arta Latham. From Liberty Mr. Starky is building a new residence. Richard Vaden has gone to Hunt county. W.P. Brown has quite a stylish new buggy. We have no preaching at the school house now, and would be glad if some preacher would preach for us on Sunday evenings. From Pinkerton Mrs. A. Chaney returned from visits to Walnut Springs. Mrs. Dan Faulkner and children visits relatives at Mart. Mr. Jim Logan has been ill with lagrippe. Personal and Local Married - Mr. Sam D. Parks and Miss Ara Latham at the home of the brides parents in the southern part of the county. Mr. D.A. Whittington and family will reside in Stamford. We met Mr. J.C. O’Bryan at the depot yesterday morning and learned that he was then loading a car with his household goods for Channing, Hartley county, where he goes to practice law. Mr. O’Bryan is an old newspaper man and until recently connected with the Haskell Free Press. Prohibition Election in Haskell County went dry by 226 majority. Boxes were: Haskell, Harper, Vernon, Marcy, Pinkerton, Cliff, Gray Mare. The boxes of Brushey and Lake Creek were not counted. E.C. Chatman takes his own life at Sweetwater E.C. Chatman who for a while worked for the Merkel Hardware Company in this place during the winter, took his own life Tuesday night in Sweetwater by hanging. His family was away from home in the country and during Tuesday night he went to his barn and fastened a rope to a cross beam and Wednesday morning his lifeless remains were found suspended from the upper window of the barn.
