Glenn Burned Out Shawnee, OK., April 12. Fire broke out in the Texas Red Store a dry goods house on East Main. P.E. Glenn, one of the proprietors, that thieves had stolen money from the cash drawer and then fired the place. -- Dallas News. Mr. Glenn recently moved to Shawnee from Stamford. On Sunday, Presiding Elder Morris went out to Nugent to dedicate the new Methodist church. The gift of the land by John Roberts to his church, made before his death. It is provided with a good bell, and seats more than 500 people. --Abilene Reporter Election held on May 6, 1905 in Stamford. J.L. Blankenbeckler as presiding officer. Ordinance prohibiting throwing paper, trash and refuse in the street or alley of Stamford, Texas. Sammons & Shipp Joe Sayers Camp, No. 1396, U.C.V., met in regular session on April 8, 1905, and was called to order by Liet. T.M. Baxter. The following comrades were present: Aaron Wood, J.M. Prude, J.P. McDaniel, A.H. O’Keefe, B.F. Whitfield, J.W. Craig, J.B. Cochran, G.W. Barr. Resolved that the thanks of the camp are hereby tendered to our comrade, Hon. Stamford, Texas Going to Move After this month we will discontinue our present Barber Shop known as the Bills Shaving Parlor and are going to move into the new building 1st door west of P.O. where we will have new furniture and be prepared to accommodate the trade. Larche & Merritt Local and Personal Oscar Matthews of Avoca was in town. A. Gustafson, of Throckmorton has been in town. W.J. James renewed and placed J.J. James name as well. J.H. Hall who lived here for several years and now lives in Clarendon has been in Stamford visiting friends. New Officers The City Council met in the City Hall on the 12 and administered the oath of office to Dr. J.R. Sledge, as mayor, Chas. Sammons, as alderman and Joseph L. Lockett, as city attorney. There was no general election of city attorney, but Mr. Martin tendered his resignation and the council elected Mr. Lockett to fill the vacancy. There was a tie between Mr. McDaniel and Mr. Aston for alderman and an election will be held.
