Dr. Sledge an old citizen of Stamford has been an alderman since the incorporation of the town. Mr. Pink Maberry’s infant child died last Sunday morning and was buried at the Wood’s chapel cemetery. Miss Irene Sammons renewed. Dean & Duncan New grocery store in town. J.J. Bragg renewed. He is one of the old citizens of Jones county, and one of the best farmers in the Spring Creek neighborhood. Elder C.A. Mangham had quite a serious accident last Monday night at Hitson. He had gone there to perform the marriage ceremony for Mr. Walter Baker and Miss Ida Gardner. Bale and bundle Sorghum. _ J.C. Ahser, one mile on Anson road. A telegram received last Saturday by L.E. Malone from Abilene say that Henry Briggs, a cousin of Mr. Malone was drowned and would be buried Sunday. Mr. Briggs and another young man were fishing in a pond near Abilene and in some way Mr. Briggs fell in and was drowned before he could be gotten out. [born Sept 1884, TX – parents: Charles and Alice Briggs] Mr. E.B. Rollins died at his home in Abilene, Wednesday, April 5th, after a lingering illness from cancer. Mr. Rollins was a prominent member of the Methodist church and an old time citizen of Abilene. He was well known. Mr. Rollins was the father of Mrs. Ira Border and N.[Nathan] G. Rollins of Aspermont. Nicholson, pastor of the Baptist church of Haskell filled his regular appointment. Dr. Easely the dentist was here several days. Mr. Bob Webb left last Sunday for Lawton, OK., he will move his father and mother back here. Anson Allsorts City elections: Capt. J.D. Pickens for mayor; Edd Pyatt, Marshall; Aldermen - J.J. Maxie; S.W. Lacky, H.B. Kennedy, Bob Goodwin, Walter Wright. Elder Price Billingsley, Christian Evangelist will begin a series of meetings here next Sunday. Monday being the First Monday and traders day, there were many people here from all parts of the county. Messrs. Dud Bourn and Tom Jones of Stamford as well as Mayor R.L. Penick. Anson has a “brass band” under the instruction of Prof. Odor, principal of the Anson High School. Miss Clemmie Keeling of Stamford, who is teaching the Truby school, w as in Anson. Miss Lena Fletcher of Stamford, teacher of the Cotton Wood School was here accompanied by Miss Ollye Roberts, of said community, and several other teachers, whose names are unknown to us here to see Judge Thomas. Messrs. Sid Castles, Wess Swan, Chas. Sparman and Ye Scribe were in Stamford.
