We will be located on the Northwest corner of the square, B.Yates old stand. J.M. Lively From Liberty Richard Vaden has returned from Wolf City. Mrs. W.W. Hall is visiting her daughter Mrs. T.J. Cannon. Miss Lena Cannon has been sick for a week. Grandma Tunnell is expected here Sunday. Miss Ethel Tunnell is visiting relatives at Rising Star. A.J. Douglass and Bert Dunn went to Haskell county. Overseer Bammie Copeland worked the Woodson road last week. Stamford City Council The election between J.P. McDaniel and J.P. Aston for aldermen, was revoked. The matter having been placed in the courts it was decided to let the courts settle it. Local and Personal Dr. J.B. Ragan, postmaster of Pinkerton was in town. The Stamford Fire Company’s play, “The Noble Outcast,” has been postponed to the 18th of this month. Mr. Frank Johnson went to McCammat Wednesday to attend the closing exercises of Bro. Johnson’s school. Rev. J.D. Crockeet, pastor of the Methodist church at Springtown, Texas was in Stamford last week. Mrs. W.J. Byars who had been visiting her daughter and sister, Miss Minnie Burrelesmith; left Wednesday for her home in Waco. Sam Stewart hurt his shoulder near Flat Top Mountain. Attorney P.G. Stanford of Anson was in Stamford on business. Mrs. T.P. Walker was called to Dublin Tuesday to attend the burial of Mr. Walker’s father. Nelson Gilreath will give an entertainment in the City Hall Monday night, May 8th, under the auspices of the Woman’s Home Mission Society. Fitzhugh Lee died at the Providence Hospital, Washington, April 28 of apoplexy and paralysis. Born in Fairfax County, Virginia, 1835. Nephew of Robert E. Lee. Graduated United States Military Academy, 1856. Instructor of cavalry at West Point, 1860-1861. Lieutenant Colonel and colonel First Virginia Cavalry, 1861-1862. Made Brigadier General July 25, 1862. Mad Major General September 3, 1863. Had three horses shot from under him and was badly wounded at Winchester, Va., September 19, 1864. Commanded whole cavalry corps of Army of Northern Virginia from March, 1865, until he surrendered to Meade at Farmville. Governor of Virginia, 1886-1890. United States Consul at Havana from 1893 until war was declared with Spain, in 1898. Appointed Major General United States Volunteers, May, 1898; placed in command Seventh Army Corps. Became Military Governor of Havana, January 1, 1899. Later in command Department of Missouri, United States Army until retired upon reaching the age limit.
